Hemant Soren arrested by ED in land scam case

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was arrested on Wednesday, following a dramatic turn of events that began earlier in the day. Soren had initiated legal action by lodging an FIR against senior Enforcement Directorate (ED) personnel at the SC/ST police station in Jharkhand. This move was in response to searches conducted by the ED at his residence in Delhi.

The arrest has brought a fresh wave of political tension, with JMM President Hemant Soren being taken into custody by the ED in connection with a land scam case. JMM MP Mahua Maji confirmed the arrest and has appealed to the Governor to appoint Champai Soren as the next chief minister of Jharkhand.

Hemant Soren alleges that the ED's search operation at his residence in the national capital was conducted with the intention to "harass and malign him and his entire community," as stated in the FIR. Senior Superintendent of Police, Chandan Kumar Sinha, confirmed the lodging of the FIR against some senior ED officials based on the chief minister's application.

In the FIR, Soren expresses the profound impact on his family, citing "immense mental, psychological, and emotional harm" caused by the actions. The unfolding events have raised questions about the intersection of political power, legal proceedings, and allegations against law enforcement agencies.
